Privacy

We don't ask who you are, and our pages don't set cookies or save anything in your browser. We do count visits, so we know which pages help people and how they find us.

In short

  • No ads, ad pixels, social media widgets, or session recorders.
  • Our pages don't set cookies or save anything in your browser.
  • No accounts or sign-ups, and nothing asks for your name or email.
  • We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, described below.
  • Cloudflare also delivers our pages and protects the site, described under Cloudflare's network.

How we count visits

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which loads a small script from Cloudflare (static.cloudflareinsights.com) on each page. Cloudflare says it "does not use any client-side state, such as cookies or localStorage, to collect usage metrics," and that it doesn't "fingerprint" individuals via their IP address, User Agent string, or any other data for the purpose of displaying analytics.

What we see are totals, such as how many times a page was viewed, broken down by country, page, the website a visit came from, device type, browser, and operating system. Cloudflare lists these categories. We don't see who you are.

If your browser or an extension blocks the script, the site works exactly the same.

Cloudflare's network

Separately from analytics, every request to this site passes through Cloudflare, which delivers our pages and protects the site from attacks. That means Cloudflare handles technical details of each request, such as your IP address and the page you asked for.

  • Security cookies. Some Cloudflare protection features can set their own short-lived cookie, for example when checking whether a visitor is a person or an automated program. Cloudflare lists these cookies. They aren't used by us or by our analytics.
  • Connection error reports. Cloudflare adds a setting (network error logging) that lets some browsers send Cloudflare a report if a page fails to load. It covers failed connections only, not normal visits.

Self-checks, the quiz, and the support finder

These work on your device. Your answers aren't sent anywhere, saved, or added to the page address, and they're cleared when you leave the page (this needs JavaScript).

Server logs

Like most websites, the servers that deliver these pages, including Cloudflare's network and our web host, may keep standard technical logs of requests, such as the address a request came from and the page asked for.

Other websites

Apart from the Cloudflare items above, everything on our pages, including fonts, comes from askherfirst.org. Links to sources and hotlines take you to other organizations' websites, which have their own privacy practices. Our pages ask browsers not to tell those sites which of our pages you came from.

Your own device

Your browser and phone can keep traces of your visit, such as your history, files you save, and calls you make. Browse safely explains what stays on your device and how our quick exit works.
